James was born and raised in Lowndesboro, Alabama. After graduating from Trinity Presbyterian School in Montgomery, Alabama, he went to Auburn University where he majored in Biomedical Sciences. After being accepted at UAB School of Medicine, he deferred enrollment for a year to study theology in Nashville, Tennessee, before going on to receive his medical degree. James was drawn to UTC Orthopedics for several reasons. For one, Chattanooga is a thriving city with not only a fun social scene but also great outdoor activities. However, he believe the culture of the program is what sets this residency apart with outstanding leadership and camaraderie between residents. Outside of medicine, he enjoy exercising, mountain biking, watching college sports, playing golf, and being around any body of water he can find.
