Cracking Into Residency: Introducing UT Ortho’s 2024 Interns

Meet Dr. Aderemi "Remi" Awe:

Originally from Richmond Hill, Georgia, Remi began his academic journey at Mercer University in Macon, where he pursued a major in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. During his undergraduate years, Remi made significant contributions to the women's basketball practice squad, helping them secure SoCon championships all four years. It was also at Mercer where he met his remarkable spouse, Kaitlin.

After spending a year scribing in the Emergency Department at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Remi embarked on his medical journey at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

In his free time, Remi enjoys a variety of activities, including playing basketball, kayaking, running, competitive weightlifting, and pickleball.

Remi’s decision to join the UTC residency program was solidified after completing an away rotation here. He was deeply impressed by the residents' extensive knowledge and surgical skills, as well as the welcoming and supportive culture within the program. This combination of professional excellence and a collaborative environment convinced him that UTC was the perfect place to continue his training. Remi looks forward to honing his orthopedic skills and exploring the city of Chattanooga with Kaitlin.

Meet Dr. Charlie Martin:

Charlie hails from Dalton, Georgia, just 30 minutes south of Chattanooga. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama, where he developed a deep passion for Crimson Tide sports. After spending a year in Philadelphia working in surgical research, Charlie returned to Georgia to earn his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. His experience during an away rotation at Erlanger solidified his decision to pursue his training there.

Outside of work, Charlie enjoys playing golf, discovering new restaurants, and exploring the outdoors with his soon-to-be wife, Shelby. They are thrilled to be moving back near their hometown and are eager to take advantage of all that Chattanooga has to offer.

Meet Dr. Peyton Parker:

Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, Peyton attended Mississippi State University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering. After college, he returned to Jackson for medical school, having founded a home automation company with his college roommate. During medical school, Peyton discovered his passion for orthopedic surgery, appreciating how it uniquely combines engineering and medicine.

When he's not working, Peyton enjoys watching Mississippi State athletics and spending time outdoors with his wife, Mallory, and their dog.
